もともとはただの「おっかけ」の女の子の歌だったのでしょうが、カバー曲をただのカバー曲にしない！というリチャードのこだわりのおかげで、「恋に恋していた女子中学生のころ」と「現実の孤独の中でかつての自分を思い起こす成長した姿」の対比の歌に生まれ変わったのだと思っています。
“really” の使い方がいいですね。

歌詞はあまり意識してなかったのですが、明るい曲調のわりには救いのない歌詞だったんですねえ。

「日本語にしにくい」文が多い歌です。英語歌詞にくらべて、和訳が不自然に長い行が多いでしょう？ それは訳すのに苦しんだしるしです。
冒頭の３行を直訳すると、こうなります。
“十分なほど孤独でいたあと だれもが自分の「孤独の持ち分」に向き合わねばならない”
これは日本語ではないですよね。
でもまあ、訳してみると、明るい、美しい歌詞です。
“When I hold you” は、意味的には “Baby, Baby” 以下につながっているような気がするので、訳詞上では一行開けておきました。
第１連の goin' through (go through) は「耐える」という意味ではもっとも「英語らしい」表現。
第４連の even brighter の even は比較級の強調ですが、「今日も明るいけれど、明日はその上にもましてもっと明るい」という意味になります。
